Land grabs threaten to destroy the declining dynasty
Synopsis
When the massive Lawson cattle station lacks an heir, Australia’s rival factions see an opportunity to seize control. The series was filmed across the Northern Territory and South Australia in places so remote they’re barely inhabited – let alone projected onto the screen. Locations include the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park – with special permission from the traditional owners – and Tipperary Station, a real working cattle station so large it has its own airport and school.
Yes, it’s going to be comparable to Yellowstone
Yes, it has the same thing at the top of the plot, the conflicts and the crazy characters. Yes, you can point out a lot of similar problems. For me, the two main problems are things that just happen because they have to move the plot forward.
Plots that don’t make sense
The family patriarch just makes a decision about succession without really considering the pros and cons of each option. The second is the plot holes, which exist for a similar reason to move the plot forward. The station is supposed to be the size of Belgium, but it’s run by a family (4 members at first, later expanding to more) and it seems to have a core crew.
I also didn’t like how everything kept piling up
But of course greedy corporations are trying to take it away from them. Tensions rise, conflicts deepen, passions flare up… and then things (in a fashion) are resolved within half an hour. But it’s not a bad show if you look beyond it.
